Rochester Children's Book Fest Rebrand

The Rochester Children's Book Festival is an annual, free, one-day event that promotes literacy and kid lit. They needed an updated rebrand to match their evolving presence in the community. I created a playful identity with a simple, hand-drawn icon that adds character.

Developing the Icon
I started with different possible icon motifs, then took different keywords as a brainstorming method to iterate on them before moving on to vectors and type treatments.

Best of Both Worlds
I moved forward with two main directions. One was creating a mascot for the festival, a pet "Roc," playing off “Rochester.” The other focused on playful type and primary colors. Combining the friendliness of the icon with the energy and color palette of the second direction created the best option.
